Germany's Hamid Bhatti is run out for 13 as Guernsey make a breakthough |
Hosts Guernsey made it back-to-back wins in the ICC European Division Two Championship with an eight-wicket win over Germany in a rain-affected match. After choosing to bat first at College Field, Germany were bowled out for 121 in 41.3 overs, with Lee Savident taking three wickets. Savident then hit 46 as Guernsey reached their Duckworth/Lewis-revised target of 117 in 33.2 overs. Savident said: "Hopefully we can keep going all the way to Saturday." He added to BBC Guernsey: "It's been a good start for us. Team performance has been very good for two days now." Guernsey, who beat Gibraltar in their first game, lost to Germany in the last ICC European Division Two Championships in Glasgow in 2006. Savident explained what was different from then: "When we played them in Scotland two years ago they had guys at the top of the order who went out and threw the bat. "On that day they came off so we always knew if we got early wickets in this game then we'd get on top and hopefully keep them to the low score that we did." After two matches Guernsey and Jersey top the table as the only undefeated sides. They are due to meet on Saturday, the final day of the championships.
