Berkshire captain Bjorn Mordt put aside his disappointment to praise MCCA Cup winners Devon.

Mordt saw his side defeated by 40 runs at Lord's after they had been set a target of 290 by Devon.

He told BBC Radio Berkshire that his side were hampered by injuries but he had no complaints about the outcome.

"They deserved to win. We weren't disciplined enough in the field and we didn't bowl or bat well. At the end of the day, they played better," he said.

"We didn't build partnerships, apart from the one between Carter and me.

"But the biggest disappointment was the extras we conceded - there was no discipline in our bowling.

"Tom Lambert had to bowl his full 10 overs through - he strained his side really badly against Oxfordshire so it took a lot of guts for him even to have played.

"Richard Johnson was going to be our 'death' bowler, but with him going off after four overs, we were left with guys who dont usually bowl at the death.

"They scored 40 or 50 off the last four overs which was the difference."

Mordt top-scored for Berkshire with 79 - the only Berkshire batsman to pass 50 but that was of little consolation to the captain.

"It would have been a great knock if we had won - I needed to finish the game off and it was really disappointing that I got out at that time, but that's life," added Mordt.

"I enjoy batting here but I need to win, otherwise it doesn't feel good.

"Maybe in a couple of weeks I'll be able to look back and enjoy it, but it's gutting to lose."

Berkshire remain in contention in the Minor Counties Championship and Mordt added that has to be there focus.

Mordt said: "We're still in there. We've got one game left and if we beat Wiltshire and Cheshire don't win then we're in.

"I said to the boys afterwards that the one thing we have to understand is that these guys are going to stay together for a while.

"There's no doubt that we can come back here again next year."
