Berkshire captain Bjorn Mordt insists nerves will not affect his team for the MCCA Trophy final at Lord's. Berkshire take on Devon in Wednesday's final, a team they beat during the group stages of the competition. Mordt told BBC Radio Berkshire the county's young players will learn from their experienced players, including Richard Johnson and Carl Crowe. "They've all played a decent standard of cricket and they'll feed off the more experienced people," said Mordt. "When I went there four years ago it was my first ever trip to Lord's. When I arrived there I was taking everything in and it was so exciting, playing at the home of cricket. "This time I'm going there knowing exactly how I felt and what to expect so there'll be no anxiety about playing there. | We beat them and we beat them comfortably. But they will be looking for revenge - they're a quality team. |
"I've played there, won there and done well there, so I'm really looking forward to going back." Mordt said it was his team's all-round strength that had brought them to the final. "Our fielding this year has been superb and that makes a massive difference in one-day cricket where you can save 20 or 30 runs," he said. "Our bowling speaks for itself, where you've got Richard Johnson opening the bowling with Tom Lambert who's been fantastic for the past four or five years for us. "It gets us off to a good start every time and then you have someone like Carl Crowe to turn to - one of the best off-spinners in Minor Counties cricket." Berkshire manager David Morris added some praise for the captain. "He has that typical South African trait of hardness when he needs it," said Morris. Mordt is relishing the prospect of captaining Berkshire at Lord's |
"He leads from the front and I can't think of a better bloke to run the side and I'm delighted to have him." Having beaten Devon in the group stages, Mordt believes Berkshire have the psychological edge. "We beat them and we beat them comfortably - it wasn't a close run thing," added Mordt. "But they will be looking for revenge - they're a quality team. "We have a lot of match-winners and as long as we play some quality cricket, then we'll win."
