Ed Kean top scored for Jersey (ICC/Cricket Europe) |
Jersey's Under-17 cricket team lost their opening game against hosts Ireland at the ICC European Division One Championships on Tuesday. The Irishmen, who were runners up last year, proved too strong for Jersey. The islanders were put into bat but could only manage a total of 107. In reply the Irish cruised to 111-4 with more than 20 overs to spare. Jersey team manager Chris Minty was not surprised by the result: "We knew it would be a tough game." "The Irish team came at us very hard, which I feel showed they had respect for us," Minty told BBC Radio Jersey. Jersey's next match is against the Netherlands, and it one that Minty thinks his team can do well in. "It is the match we have targeted and need to impress in. We think we can be competitive and will play well."
