Jersey are up to 17th in the world rankings (Cricket Europe/ICC) |
Jersey has moved up six places to joint 17th in the world one-day rankings for non Test-playing nations. It comes after the island reached the final of the ICC World Cricket League Division Five tournament before losing to Afghanistan. The Afghans also climbed the rankings and now share 17th place with Jersey. Both the finalists of the WCL tournament in Jersey have been promoted to division four and travel to Tanzania for the next competition in October. Third-placed Nepal went up six places to 22nd, but fourth-placed USA dropped a place to 20th. Singapore, who were fifth overall, saw the biggest rise. They moved up 11 places to 23rd in the world while Germany climbed two places to 26th after they finished in seventh place. Norway, who won European Division Two in 2006, and will play the likes of Ireland and Scotland in the continent's Division One tournament this summer, were the biggest losers. The Norwegians, who many saw as the strongest team from Europe going into the tournament, dropped five places to 25th in the world rankings after finishing in ninth place. Botswana, who ended the competition in sixth place also drop five places to 26th in the world. Japan and Mozambique both fall nine places, to 33rd and 34th respectively while Bahamas are immediately behind them, a drop of three. Vanuatu, who lost all their matches, drop six to 42.
