Wright hails Scots cricket boost
Scotland captain Craig Wright
Craig Wright wants to be involved in two in the World Cup
Scotland skipper Craig Wright believes that winning the ICC Trophy for the first time will be a massive boost to developing cricket in his homeland.

The Scots also qualified for the 2007 World Cup and received 300,000 to help develop the game in Scotland.

"This has been an absolutely massive tournament, not just for players but for the future in Scotland," he said.

"This win isn't just about the World Cup - it's also about developing and improving the game in Scotland."

Scotland were unbeaten during the tournament, culminating in a 47-run victory over the hosts in the final.

"We wanted to show the ICC that we are the best associate country and I think we've shown that," said Wright.
I think we'll put in a creditable performance in the World Cup
Craig Wright

"I think it will be fantastic for Scottish cricket to pit ourselves against the more established sides on a more regular basis."

Scotland, drawn alongside Australia, South Africa and the Netherlands at the 2007 World Cup, have long-term plans to follow in Kenya's footsteps and earn full one-day international recognition.

The last time Scotland reached the World Cup in 1999, Wright missed out on selection, but the Saltires skipper is desperate to make up for lost time.

Wright may have a personal agenda to feature in the West Indies, but his long-term aim is helping to develop the next generation of young cricketers in Scotland.

"It feels absolutely fantastic," added Wright. "There are a good few people in this team who have been through some disappointments in World Cup qualification.

"This is the vindication and the culmination of a lot of hard work. The way we have done it this time has been very comprehensive.

"This has to be the icing on the cake because of the World Cup qualification.

"I'm delighted that we have done ourselves justice as a team.

"I didn't get selected in 1999, so hopefully, on a personal level, I'll be around in two years time to enjoy the World Cup.

"I think we'll put in a creditable performance in that tournament, particularly if we continue the development of the past two or three years."
