Ireland clinch place in World Cup
Ed Joyce
Ed Joyce was once again top scorer for the Irish
Ireland have qualified for the World Cup finals for the first time thanks to a 73-run win over Denmark in Thursday's ICC Trophy game at Bangor.

Denmark were bowled out for 149, confirming Ireland's place in the 2007 finals in the West Indies.

Ed Joyce top-scored with 60 in the Irish total of 222, with his brother Dom Joyce hitting a crucial 50 while Peter Gillespie contributed 40 runs.

Remarkably, Bermuda are also through to the World Cup for the first time.

Canada and Scotland, who have both been in previous World Cups, qualified from the other group.

The Irish were bowled out two balls short of their 50 allotted overs.

In the Danish reply, Baljit Singh hit 57 before falling victim to Trent Johnson who claimed three wickets for 23 off eight overs.

Andrew White claimed three late wickets as Denmark were dismissed in the 40th over.

Elsewhere in Group A, Bermuda's win over the USA, by 113 runs at Waringstown, was a similarly huge landmark in that country's cricketing history.

Vice-captain Janeiro Tucker hit 132 of Bermuda's 311-8 to claim the man of the match award. The USA were all out for 198.

The United Arab Emirates beat Uganda by 63 runs at Lurgan.

They will now fight for the final qualifying spot for the World Cup with Denmark, Holland and Namibia.
