Smith thanks South Africa bowlers
Smith was named man of the series
South Africa's Graeme Smith deflected attention from his man-of-the-series award towards Makhaya Ntini and Andre Nel after beating West Indies 2-0.

"The man of the series is a special thing but a lot of credit's got to go to my bowlers," said the captain.

"Makhaya was highly motivated coming into the tour to perform in conditions like these after some criticism.

"Andre Nel (took the) new ball for the first time, stepped into some big shoes and was outstanding."

There are a few big smiles in the dressing-room now and the guys are very happy
Graeme Smith

Smith scored 505 runs in the series while Nel and Ntini each took 17 wickets. But Nel was most impressive, standing in for Shaun Pollock in the first three matches before a back injury ruled him out of the finale.

Amazingly this was South Africa's first away series victory since touring Bangladesh two years ago - Smith's first series in charge.

"It was a very special series win for us to go into the middle two Tests and perform so well," Smith continued.

"Most of us didn't perform up to standard in the Test series back home against England and we wanted to come here and do well.

"There are a few big smiles in the dressing-room now and the guys are very happy."
