Superb Nel shatters West Indies
Third Test, Barbados, day four: South Africa 548-9d beat West Indies 296 & 166 by an innings and 86 runs

Andre Nel grabbed Test-best figures of 6-32 as South Africa won the third Test against West Indies by an innings and 86 runs with a day to spare.

The Windies were bowled out for 166 in 54.2 overs after South Africa had declared on 548-9 early in the day.

The first three wickets fell in just four balls, with Makhaya Ntini removing Chris Gayle and Ramnaresh Sarwan before Nel dismissed Wavell Hinds.

Courtney Browne was the last man out after blazing a defiant 68.

The day began with South Africa adding 27 runs to their overnight score of 521-8.

Nicky Boje finished 20 not out and Ntini reached a rapid 16 before splicing a catch off Daren Powell.

Gayle and Hinds then got as far as Ntini's third over with the new ball before the first wicket fell.

Gayle was trying to withdraw his bat from a fast ball just back of a length but got an edge to Graeme Smith at first slip.

The next ball, to new man in Ramnaresh Sarwan, had the batsman ducking but foolishly leaving his gloves in the air.

The ball glanced off his hands and looped to Herschelle Gibbs at third slip.

Two balls later, Gibbs took another catch as Nel bowled a peach of a delivery that held its line on off-stump and Hinds edged his defensive shot.

Lara and Shivnarine Chanderpaul, who put on 138 together in the first innings, needed to do a lot more than that to get West Indies out of this nightmare.

But after combining defence with some sparkling boundaries, they each fell to Nel between lunch and tea.

Lara (13) was trapped lbw on the crease by Nel bowling round the wicket and Chanderpaul (31) departed in similar fashion, both left-handers trying to play around their pads.

Jacques Kallis then ousted Dwayne Bravo cheaply before Ryan Hinds top-edged a sweep against Boje.

Browne hit some excellent shots, and took 18 off one Monde Zondeki over.

But Nel returned to remove Powell, Fidel Edwards and finally Browne, who was caught hooking on the deep square leg boundary.

South Africa now lead the series 2-0 with just one match to play.
