Kasprowicz last appeared for Australia in March 2001 |
Pace bowler Michael Kasprowicz has been recalled after two-and-a-half years to bolster Australia's attack in India. Pace men Glenn McGrath, Jason Gillespie and Brett Lee have all been ruled out of the triangular one-day series.
Kasprowicz has not figured for Australia since the second Test in India in Calcutta in 2001.
"Michael has experience in the challenging conditions of the sub-continent and that will be a real asset," said selector Trevor Hohns.
"With injuries to our senior bowling line-up, we felt that on this occasion it was necessary to look for another experienced quick.
"Given the work load that Andy Bichel and Brad Williams will face during this current Test match, it is fair to say that Michael will play a big role in India."
Bichel and Williams were left to shoulder the load in the second Test against Zimbabwe after Lee suffered a torn abdominal muscle during the match.
McGrath in not expected to play again until mid-December after ankle surgery and Gillespie has a side injury. Kasprowicz played the last of 16 one-day internationals in against Sri Lanka in Melbourne in February 1999.
The selectors highlighted his 77 first-class wickets during the recent English county season with Glamorgan.
Australia take on India and New Zealand in the series, which opens on 23 October, with the final on 18 November.
Revised Australian squad: Ricky Ponting (capt), Adam Gilchrist, Michael Bevan, Andy Bichel, Nathan Bracken, Michael Clarke, Brad Williams, Ian Harvey, Matthew Hayden, Brad Hogg, Michael Kasprowicz, Jimmy Maher, Damien Martyn, Andrew Symonds.
