England's netballers lose to NZ
Pamela Cookey of England
Cookey scored 14 goals for England
England's netball team suffered their first defeat of the 2006 Commonwealth Games when they were beaten 55-40 by world champions New Zealand.

England kept pace with the Silver Ferns for the first two quarters but then began to lose touch.

English shooter Pamela Cookey scored 14 goals from 20 attempts with team-mate Louisa Brownfield netting 15 from 17.

England should still book a place in the semi-finals provided they beat South Africa in their next match.

They are second in pool one with three wins and one defeat from their four games.

Brownfield said: "We were in the match for a long time. We went behind and then pulled back a couple of times.

"It was an enjoyable match to play in," added the 21-year-old Mavericks player.

"I've never played against the New Zealand senior team before, so it was a big thing for me and I was pleased with my performance.

"We're all very pleased with the way we're playing and things are going well."
