England's netball team began their quest for Commonwealth gold with a 63-47 win over Malawi. Bath pair Rachel Dunn and Pamela Cookey were in fine shooting form as England won comfortably in the pool match at Melbourne's State Netball Centre.
But head coach Marg Caldow said the team had to improve before facing New Zealand and South Africa next week.
"It was a bit patchy," she said. "The most pleasing thing was to get a win and all 12 players got court time."
England established their superiority early and led 20-11 after the first quarter.
Dunn netted 13 goals from 16 attempts, while Cookey was also on the score sheet with seven goals.
In other matches, Australia downed Wales 78-22, Jamaica beat Singapore 67-22, and New Zealand defeated St Vincent & the Grenadines 98-31.
