Guernsey's Bradley Watson aims for Commonwealth title

Guernsey's Bradley Watson has set his sights on winning the Commonwealth flyweight title following his move into professional boxing.

The 20-year-old turned pro in the summer after competing at high-profile events locally for several years.

He told BBC Guernsey: "Within the next two years I'm hoping to achieve a British title, then after that move on to a Commonwealth title.

"But being a pro based in Guernsey is quite difficult," he added.

Watson says stepping up to the professional ranks has led to a marked increase in the intensity of his training.

"There's more sparring, longer runs, conditioning, and fighting without a head guard or vest," he explained.

The flyweight, who started boxing aged 11, said he still takes a lot of support from his club, the Amalgamated Boys Club.

He said: "I love the sport and all the lads at the club - they're my best mates."

Watson, who will be known as the 'Glamour Boy', added that his height of 5ft 10in will hopefully give him extra reach and a "height bonus on most fighters".
