Haskins (left) had the better of a poor fight with Broadhurst (right) |
Lee Haskins has added the Commonwealth super-flyweight title to his British crown after outpointing Don Broadhurst in 12 scrappy rounds in Newport. The Bristol man received a unanimous verdict from all three judges. Unbeaten Broadhurst began as favourite but offered little, with Haskell having the share of the clean action on offer. Olympic bronze medallists Tony Jeffries and David Price remain unbeaten after first-round wins over Dimitrijs Basovs and Andrejs Tolstihs respectively. Heavyweight Price took just 33 seconds to stop Latvian Basovs, flooring him with a short right hand - his first and only punch of the fight. Light-heavyweight Jeffries outclassed Tolstihs, also from Latvia, sending him to the canvas three times before their contest was called off after two minutes and 17 seconds.
