Haskins had little trouble dispatching of Burkinshaw in four rounds |
Bristol's Lee Haskins retained his British super-flyweight title with victory over Sheffield-based Ross Burkinshaw in Sunderland. In his first title defence, Haskins overpowered his rival with his punches being met with scant reply. The inexperienced Burkinshaw's misery was ended when the bout was stopped in the fourth round. Sunderland super-middleweight Tony Jefferies also won with a first-round stoppage of Belarus' Ilya Shakura. Olympic bronze medallist Tony Jeffries made it three wins from as many fights of his professional career. Shakura failed to test Jeffries as he lasted just over half of the three-minute first round. A body shot from Jeffries less than a minute into the contest forced his opponent to go down on one knee and the Belarus fighter soon had a bloodied nose. Jeffries had Shakura pinned to the ropes when the referee stepped in to stop the contest.
