Higgs took over as Rovers chairman in August last year
Bristol Rovers chairman Nick Higgs says he wants to see the squad strengthened further before the new season begins and will back manager Paul Trollope.
Rovers have signed defender Carl Regan and midfielder Dominic Blizzard so far, but have also released four players.
"It's about quality not quantity this year," Higgs told BBC Radio Bristol.
"I'm hoping there will be a couple more signings and we're backing the manager because we weren't far short last year and we want to build on that."
He added: "Last year we played some good football and held our own.
"Rome wasn't built in a day, and everyone wants instant success, but we have a good squad here and we want to build on that."
Trollope may have to move some more players on, however, before he can sign anyone else. The club have three players - Andy Williams, Lewis Haldane and Sean Rigg - on the transfer list.
Trollope said: "We would like to have one or two new faces by the start of the season.
"It's been well documented we have a few on the list who may be going out, but there's nothing imminent at this moment in time."
