Jeffries won a bronce medal at the Beijing Olympics |
Olympic bronze medallist Tony Jeffries marked his 'homecoming' in fine style with a second round stoppage of German super-middleweight Roy Meissner. Jeffries, 24, who was fighting professionally for only the second time since winning bronze in Beijing last year impressed throughout. In front of a partisan home crowd in Sunderland he had his opponent down three times in the opening round. And after a non-stop barrage in the second, the referee stopped the fight. "I couldn't believe the reception I got," Jeffries said. "Thanks to everyone who supported me - when I got into the ring I was nearly crying!"
