COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION ONE, Hove CLOSE OF PLAY, DAY THREE: Durham 380 and 164-2, Sussex353(Sussex 7pts, Durham 7pts) 6-9 May 2009 (Play starts 1100 BST)
Andrew Hodd struck 12 fours in his third first-class hundred
Sussex keeper Andrew Hodd hit the third first-class hundred of his career, but county champions Durham still look the best bet for a final-day win at Hove.
Hodd's 101 underpinned a recovery by Sussex's lower order which restricted their first innings deficit to 17 in being bowled out for 363.
But ex-Sussex opener Michael Di Venuto (75) and Gordon Muchall (51) added an unbroken third-wicket stand of 97.
That took Durham to 164-2 at the close, a healthy lead of 181 with a day to go.
BBC Sussex's John Lees reviews day three at Hove:
"Durham have the chance to set Sussex a formidable target.
"The question will be whether or not Sussex can bat out the day, because Durham are unlikely to give them a sniff of victory.
"The stand between Di Venuto and Muchall has put Durham in a good position, we could yet have an excellent finish."
