British Basketball League outfit Worthing Thunder hope to have a new coach by the end of the month.

The new BBL franchise finished second-from-bottom in their first season under Gary Smith, who has been released in search of a more full-time head coach.

Director Frank Gainsbury told BBC Sussex: "We are actively going through the process at the moment. We hope to button the thing up by the end of May."

Former Guildford Heat coach Paul James had been linked with the position.

Gainsbury said "We're always talking to people, I met with Paul at the BBL finals over the weekend.

"I know Paul's position, we know Paul and he knows us, his record speaks for itself.

"He's achieved amazing successes and there are not many clubs in the BBL who wouldn't want to have a guy like that on board."
