Tony Rowley's record for the Snaefell race had stood since 1987 |
Lloyd Taggart continued his domination of the Isle of Man fell running season on Saturday with a record-breaking victory at Snaefell. Despite difficult conditions Taggart broke Tony Rowley's long-standing course record by 18 seconds to claim a fourth win of the season. He told the BBC: "I set off quite steady, so I was surprised to break the record, but I'm delighted to do so." Tom Cringle finished three-and-a-half minutes behind with Ian Gale third. Taggart, who represented England for six years, has now won all four races this year. Jackie Lee won the lady's event, finishing 10th overall. Lee completed the course in 50 minutes eight seconds, with Rachel Holden second and Caroline Caren third. The Snaefell Race is one of the toughest in the Manx calendar climbing a tortuous 1,900ft in just five miles.
