Simon Skillicorn on his way to victory at Carraghan earlier in the season |
Simon Skillicorn delivered another gritty performance to win the North Barrule Fell race in strong winds and driving rain on Tuesday evening. In a tight race Skillicorn, Tom Cringle and Nigel Armstrong could not be separated as they reached the summit. Skillicorn delivered a fast descent to take the win from Cringle, who only just held off a fast-approaching Nigel Armstrong. Over 30 competitors braved the appalling conditions. Skillicorn, Cringle and Armstrong will be delighted with their respective performances of 39 minutes 26 seconds, 39.40 and 39.41 as their sub-40-minute times mean that all three qualified to represent the Isle of Man in the forthcoming Commonwealth Fell Running Championships in Keswick. The ever consistent Sarah Curphey was the fastest woman home, finishing 16th overall in a time of 51 minutes and 31 seconds. Rose Hooton and Justine Bowen finishing second and third in the ladies race.
