Sayers is still disappointed at finishing fourth in Beijing |
Great Britain javelin star Goldie Sayers hopes a personal best at the Berlin World Championship in August will secure her a medal finish. Sayers narrowly missed out on a medal at the Beijing Olympics despite throwing a personal best of 65.75m. The 26-year-old told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "If I produce the same performance as last year I'd like to think that would be a medal. "To win a medal would bury a bit of disappointment from last year." The thought of the London Olympics has been a source of encouragement for Sayers since Beijing. | There are a lot of medium term goals to aim for which are really stepping stones towards London |
"It is something I think about on a daily basis," she said. "It's a good one to use if you're struggling a little bit in training, and it will definitely be a driving force over the next three years." She added: "Thankfully it is in London as I don't think you'd get the same buzz if it was somewhere else." Sayers says all the events she competes in over the next three years will be building to the next Olympics. She said: "With World Championships this year, Commonwealth and Europeans next year, there are a lot of medium-term goals to aim for which are really stepping stones towards London, but equally important."
