Brabin guided Cambridge to the Blue Square Premier play-off final

Gary Brabin has said he is fully focused on doing his best for Cambridge United after missing out on the managerial vacancy at Blackpool.

Ian Holloway has been chosen to take the reigns at the Championship club.

Brabin told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "I don't think anyone can blame me for speaking to a club that are close to my heart and in the Championship.

"But you can't buy happiness and as long as we continue to share the same ambitions then I'm happy here."

Brabin travelled to Blackpool for talks on Monday, the day after the U's Blue Square Premier play-off final defeat to Torquay.

The 38-year-old is well known to the Seasiders having spent three years at Bloomfield Road as a player in the mid-1990s.

"It's a club that's close to my heart, a Championship club and was a fantastic opportunity," Brabin said.

"I was far from making any sort of decision, I went with an open mind and wanted to hear what they had to say."

Brabin was interviewed for the post along with a number of other candidates, and despite not being offered the job, admitted his heart was never really in a move back up north.

"If I'm honest I wasn't really focused on anything but our defeat and I couldn't wait to get back here and get on with the job," he said.

Brabin has a year remaining on the deal he signed on joining the U's from Southport in June 2008.
