Olsson has not competed this year |
Olympic triple jump champion Christian Olsson is set to miss the 2006 World Indoor Championships after undergoing keyhole surgery on his right foot. "It's more or less decided that he won't have an indoor season," said the Swede's coach Yannick Tregaro.
"Should something out of the ordinary happen there is a tiny chance he'll do a few competitions at the end of the indoor season but that's not our goal."
The World Indoors take place in Moscow in March.
Olsson, 25, hurt his foot when he won gold at the 2004 Athens Olympics and has been struggling with the injury ever since.
The surgery he had on Tuesday in Gothenburg was his fourth operation on the foot, two months after the third in Holland.
"The third operation went well and increased movement a lot," Tregaro added. "It is almost as good as the good foot.
"Now we know where we stand, we are focused and we have a plan."
Olsson is expected to be out of action for a further four to six weeks, meaning he will not be competing in Glasgow on 28 January, his original target for a return.
He did not compete in 2005, missing the World Championships in Helsinki in August where he would have been defending his title.
His main focus for next season will now be the defence of his European title on home soil in Gothenburg in August.
