Olsson ruled out of indoor season

Olsson also wants to make his mark in the high jump
Olympic triple jump champion Christian Olsson will miss the entire indoor season because of an ankle injury.

The Swede has been suffering from a small problem with his right ankle since winning his Olympic title.

He said X-rays taken in Australia have shown fluid around the joint and it was recommended that he should rest to give the ankle time to heal.

Olsson has not set a date for his return but he will definitely miss the European Indoor Championships in March.

Olsson planned to compete in both the triple jump and high jump during the indoor season and was hoping to challenge Olympic high jump champion Stefan Holm, a fellow Swede.

"I haven't forgotten about the high jump," Olsson said. "I will participate in a few high jump competitions this summer. When and where has not been decided yet."

Olsson is the only triple jumper ever to hold Olympic, world outdoor, world indoor, European and European indoor titles simultaneously.

He also won six Golden League meetings last season, sharing a US$1m jackpot with runner Tonique Williams-Darling.
