The 2000 Olympic bronze medal-winner clocked two minutes 0.46 seconds, pipping Spain's Maite Martinez and Hungarian Judit Varga.

Holmes, who last Sunday ran her fastest 1500m in five years in Hengelo, said she continued to be encouraged by recent results.

"I felt really strong and would have liked to have gone under two minutes," she said. "But I'm happy - it was another encouraging run."

Fellow Briton Daniel Caines finished second on his first outdoor 400m outing of the summer, clocking 45.39 seconds.

Commonwealth Games hopeful Greg Haughton of Jamaica matched his winning performance in Seville last year, to pip Caine in 44.75secs.

Graffin boost

Andy Graffin beat John Mayock in the battle of the British runners over 1500m, but they were denied victory in the race by a Kenyan clean sweep of the top three.

World silver medallist Bernard Lagat won in 3:36.52 ahead of Laban Rotich and Benjamin Kipkurui.

Graffin was fifth, timed at 3:38.01, the fastest by a British runner this year.

Mayock, who intends to run 1500m at the Commonwealth Games and 5000m at the European Championships, was 10th in 3:42.58.
