Sports Personality of the Year host venue, Sheffield Arena, is used to staging grand events .

The £34m building was opened by the Queen on 31 May 1991.

It is home to ice hockey team Sheffield Steelers and has also hosted world championship boxing contests - including those of 2007 award winner Joe Calzaghe - basketball finals, international supercross and the World Student Games.

The arena has also hosted concerts and theatrical productions.
