The 2009 BBC Sports Personality of the Year will be hosted in Sheffield for the first time in the show's history.

After leaving London, the event enjoyed the buzz of Birmingham in 2006 and 2007 before lively Liverpool took up the baton last year and treated the watching public to a spectacular event which was won by Olympic cycling champion Sir Chris Hoy.

This year it is the turn of the Steel City which has always had a rich and strong relationship with sport.
