Ashes-winning England cricket captain Michael Vaughan and former World Superbike champion James Toseland were raised in south Yorkshire, while flamboyant featherweight boxing champion Naseem Hamed was born and bred in Sheffield.

England World Cup-winning goalkeeper Gordon Banks , a Sports Personality runner-up, Wimbledon semi-finalist Roger Taylor and heptathlete Jessica Ennis are all from the city.
