AUGUST British cyclists set Olympic standardGreat Britain's cycling team were dominant in Beijing. They won 14 medals in total, with seven golds on the track and one in the women's road race, courtesy of Nicole Cooke. Chris Hoy won three golds, Bradley Wiggins won two titles to take his Olympic tally to six medals, while Victoria Pendleton and Rebecca Romero also triumphed on the track. The team and coach Dave Brailsford picked up awards at December's BBC Sports Personality of the Year, with Hoy taking the top prize following a public vote. |
