30. Eleni Daniilidou
Eleni Daniilidou
Born: 19/9/82
Nationality: Greek
Seeded: 30
World ranking: 32
Wimbledon best:
4th round (2002)
Recent record:
2003: 2nd round
2002: 4th round
2001: 2nd round
The Greek number one opened the year in superb form with a third career title in Auckland.

She went on to reach the semi-finals in Indian Wells, beating Jennifer Capriati for the second time in the year along the way.

But Daniilidou's form has since dipped, and she endured a poor season on the clay that included a first-round loss in the French Open.

She had her breakthrough season in 2002 and built on that form in 2003.

A fourth-round defeat to Serena Williams at the Australian Open was no disgrace, nor was losing to the same player in the Paris Masters semis the following week.

Ranked as high as 14 in the world during the first half of last year, Daniilidou found the transformation from outsider to leading name a difficult one.

She has only twice made the last 16 at a Grand Slam but, appropriately enough, that came at Wimbledon.
