Major titles may have eluded him but Henman spent the best part of five years in and around the top 10, hitting a peak of four.
By 2003, injuries began to take their toll. Earlier that year, he spent three months out recovering from shoulder surgery but he rebounded to produce what many regard as the best tennis of his life at the Paris Masters in November.
The Briton beat Sebastien Grosjean, Gustavo Kuerten, Roger Federer and Andy Roddick before overcoming Andrei Pavel to lift the prestigious trophy. It was the last of 11 titles he won and one that Henman described as his "greatest achievement".
