Elena Dementieva will enter the world's top 15 on Monday |
Elena Dementieva of Russia beat second seed Lindsay Davenport to win her first title in five years as a professional. The 10th seed overcame her obvious nerves to win 4-6 7-5 6-3 in two hours and six minutes.
"It feels amazing, like a dream come true," said Dementieva.
"I've been waiting for this moment all my life. It's been a very difficult two years.
"There were moments in my life where it started to feel like I'm not going to win this title.
"I'm glad it came true in this situation, and finally I did it."
Davenport had looked on course for a straightforward victory when she led by a set and 4-2, but the the 21-year-old Russian suddenly found her range.
After winning a marathon game that lasted five deuces to go ahead 5-4 in the second set, Dementieva took the upper hand.
Davenport clearly tired and failed to hold any of her last five service games.
"All of a sudden, it seemed like whatever she was hitting was coming a lot harder," said Davenport.
"She started going for it more. There wasn't much I could do. She was swinging at will and hitting winners with her eyes closed."
Dementieva, who beat fourth seed Daniela Hantuchova and top seed Justine Henin-Hardenne on her way to the final, will enter the world's top 15 on Monday.

Serna recovered well after losing the first set |
In-form Spaniard Magui Serna claimed her second title in a week with a straight sets win over Australia's Alicia Molik. Second seed Serna, who won the Estoril Open last week, came from a set down to win 3-6 7-5 6-4 in two hours and 18 minutes.
It was her third career title and maintains her 10-match winning streak.
"I'm very tired after playing a lot of tennis in the past couple of weeks, but to win two titles in a row I'm obviously playing with a lot of confidence," said Serna.
It was a second consecutive final defeat for Molik who was beaten by Anastasia Myskina in the Sarasota Classic two weeks ago.
But the Australian admitted she was outplayed by her Spanish opponent.
"I played my best but Magui was just too good when it mattered most," she said.
"But I'm really happy with my form at the moment and I'm looking forward to seeing how well I can do for the rest of the clay season," she added.
