Dementieva reached the fifth final of her career |
Justine Henin-Hardenne's seven-match winning run came to an end on Saturday when she was beaten by Elena Dementieva. Henin-Hardenne, winner of the Family Circle Cup last week, lost her semi-final 3-6 6-4 7-5 to an opponent who mixed some brilliant groundstrokes with often timid serving.
The 10th-seeded Russian looked nervous at times and faced match point in the third set, but came through eventually to set up a meeting with Lindsay Davenport in Sunday's final.
Davenport, the second seed, beat Jennifer Capriati 6-3 5-7 6-2 in Saturday's other semi.
Henin-Hardenne looked on her way out at 4-1 down in the third before fighting back to lead 5-4 and hold a match point on Dementieva's serve.
But the Belgian top seed missed a backhand to let her opponent off the hook and then lost a pair of break points before netting two simple forehands to give Dementieva the match.

Molik won her first title in January |
Australia's Alicia Molik reached her third final of the year with a 6-4 6-4 victory over Spain's Maria Sanchez Lorenzo. The third seed will face Magui Serna, who beat Slovak Ludmila Cervanova 6-3 6-3.
Molik picked up her first WTA title at Hobart in January.
But she faces a tough test in her first meeting with Serna, who successfully defended her clay-court title in Estoril last weekend.
"I feel a bit tired because this is my second tournament in a row," said Serna.
"But I am determined to do my best to win in the final tomorrow."
