Racewatch: Epsom Oaks day
Unbeaten filly Eswarah proved the star on Ladies Day at Epsom with victory in the Vodafone Oaks.

Eswarah, whose mother also won the race, held off the field to give a first Oaks success to trainer Michael Jarvis and jockey Richard Hills.

Ex-champion jockey Kieren Fallon was out of luck on joint-favourite Virginia Waters but picked up two other winners, including the Coronation Cup on Yeats.

John Egan also rode a 134-1 double on the first day of the Derby meeting.

Trainer Michael Jarvis and jockey Richard Hills both enjoy a first Oaks success on joint-favourite Eswarah, whose mother Midway Lady also won the fillies' Classic.

Magical Romance sets the early pace but the field are queueing up behind her at Tattenham Corner.

Eswarah comes to the front two furlongs out and holds off the challenge of Something Exciting with the Irish-trained Pictavia finishing well to come third.

The other joint-favourite, Virginia Waters, weaved her way through the pack in the final stages but did not seem to quite get the trip.

1530 Vodafone Coronation Cup (Group One)

1 Yeats (K Fallon) 5-1
2 Alkaased (J Fortune) 2-1 fav
3 Reefscape (C Soumillon) 11-2
Seven ran.Dist: 2l, 3l.

Another brilliant ride from Kieren Fallon as Yeats leads from start to finish to win comfortably.

Fallon kicks on as soon as he rounds Tattenham Corner with Alkaased making a late move to catch the leader but to no avail.

French raider Reefscape is third with Warrsan, who had been aiming for an unprecedented third Coronation Cup win in a row, fourth.

1450 Vodafone Rose Bowl

2 Realism (P Hanagan) 12-1
3 Chancellor (S Sanders) 50-1
4 Night Spot (J Quinn) 12-1
Seventeen ran. Dist: l, shd.

Eccentric, owner Gary Tanaka's second string horse in the race, holds off a strong challenge for victory in the valuable handicap.

A slow-run race means there is a lot of bunching but Eccentric is always well-placed near the front of the pack and moves to the head of the field coming into the home straight.

The Andrew Reid-trained four-year-old just gets home ahead of Realism and the fast-finishing Chancellor.

Kew Green, the well-backed 7-2 favourite fades as soon as the runners came out of Tattenham Corner and trails in down the field.

Tanaka, who also owns the multiple Group One winner Rakti, is not at Epsom as he has an appointment in a New York court after being arrested on fraud charges last week.

2 Ridge Boy (R Moore) 11-2
3 Nero's Return (J Fanning) 9-1
Eleven ran. Dist: 5l, 3l.

Kieren Fallon shows his expertise on the rolling Epsom course by riding a perfectly-judged race to win on Momtic.

Little Jimbob sets a fast early pace that leaves the field well strung out but Fallon ensures that the William Jarvis-trained Momtic stays in touch and strikes for home two furlongs out.

Ridge Boy, who had been the subject of a late gamble, also stays on for second behind the well-backed favourite.

1345 Princess Elizabeth Stakes (Group Three)
One mile and half a furlong

1 Sundrop (L Dettori) Evens fav
2 Peeress (M Kinane) 11-8

Three ran. Dist: 2l, 1l.

Frankie Dettori, who will be looking for his first-ever Derby win on Saturday, gets the Epsom meeting off to a great start with victory on Sundrop in the famous royal blue colours of Godolphin.

Joe Fanning makes the early running on Secret History but Dettori takes his filly to the front at the two-furlong marker and soon leaves the other two runners in his wake to score an easy victory.

After the race, Dettori confirms that he will not be appealing against the six-day ban he picked up on Thursday that will rule him out of Royal Ascot.
