Beijing Olympian Andrew Smith is one of three Brits, alongside Rajiv Ouseph and Canadian-born Carl Baxter, aiming to make their marks among a strong men's singles field dominated by China and Korea. Emms has been particularly impressed this year by the improvements made by Ouseph in winning the national championships. "He has always been Mr Rubberman but I didn't know if he could beat the physicality of the top players," she says. "But he has become really quick recently and his skill level is amazing." Emms believes Smith will aim to improve to compete at the top level, saying: "He needs to do that because you have to win games day after day to win big tournaments."
