Freddie Lindgren's five race wins ensured Wolves made a strong start

A 15-point maximum from Grand Prix star Freddie Lindgren underpinned Wolves' 52-41 victory over Lakeside on the opening night of the Elite League.

It was not all plain sailing for the home side at Monmore, who were still trailing with six heats remaining.

But Lindgren won three of the last five races, and Polish rider Adam Scornicki finally saw his own machinery arrive after it had been stuck in traffic.

Peter Karlsson notched 11 points for Wolves, Tai Woffinden adding eight.

Joonas Kylmakorpi led the Hammers with nine points, Lee Richardson and Jonas Davidson adding eight apiece.

Wolves boss Peter Adams was in jubilant mood, admitting: "It was a terrific meeting.

"For us to win the meeting and take maximum points after being behind for so long was a terrific achievement."

Scornicki's equipment issue was not the only difficulty that Wolves had to overcome, as Woffinden suffered engine problems on the parade lap, and Joe Haines retired while leading heat two.

Under the new Elite League regulations Wolves claim the maximum three points for registering a home win by more than six points on the night, Lakeside leaving empty-handed.

Wolves return to action next Monday night when they host Swindon in the second leg of their Knockout Cup tie, looking to overhaul a 21-point deficit.
