Tai Woffinden produced a great ride to beat Leigh Adams (John Hipkiss) |
Wolverhampton are on the brink of Knockout Cup elimination after a 57-36 defeat at Swindon in their first round first leg meeting. The men from Monmore Green never really recovered from the early loss of Chris Kerr with heavy bruising after a fall. Freddie Lindgren also took a tumble as Swindon established a 14-4 lead, the Swede brushing himself off to register eight points. Peter Karlsson led Wolves with 11 points, Tai Woffinden adding six. But Karlsson's evening did not go smoothly either, forced to retire with engine trouble in heat 15, enabling the Robins to build-up their substantial 21-point lead to take to the return leg at Monmore on 6 April. Teenager Woffinden produced one of the rides of the night in heat 10 when he claimed the scalp of Grand Prix star Leigh Adams to record a valuable race win. Wolves launch their Elite League campaign next Monday, 30 March, as they host last season's runners-up Lakeside.
