After racking up just three points from the previous two races, Schumacher finally claimed his first win of the season at the San Marino Grand Prix.

The Ferrari led from the start but Schumacher ran into tyre problems after his first pit stop and was forced to fight to repel Alonso.

But Renault failed to grab the lead with an early final stop and Schumacher managed to survive in front, finishing ahead of Alonso for the first time in four 2006 races.
