A mixture of luck, gutsy driving and brilliant strategy all played a part as Hamilton notched up a fine win in Monaco to regain the championship lead. Hamilton punctured a rear tyre on lap six after hitting a barrier in rainy conditions but the early pit stop meant he could take on enough fuel to outlast his rivals. The Ferrari's pace had out-stripped Hamilton in Spain and Turkey but in Monaco Massa conceded second place to Kubica, after he lost control, while Raikkonen finished out of the points to lose his lead in the title race.
