He has not won a Tour event all season but the 32-year-old Swede, a regular in the world's top 10, is a classy operator.
Dubai-based Stenson instantly entered golfing folklore in September 2006 when he sank Europe's match-winning putt at the K Club in Ireland on his Ryder Cup debut.
He became World Match Play champion in Arizona last year, winning his most significant title to date by beating 2006 US Open winner and defending champion Geoff Ogilvy 2&1 in the 36-hole final.
But 2008 has witnessed his best performances at the majors: joint third with Greg Norman at the Open in July and fourth at the USPGA in August.
Stenson's rise has been hugely impressive since he turned professional in 1999.
He joined the European Tour in 2001, and from 2005 has finished each year in the top 10 of the European Order of Merit, becoming officially ranked as one of the world's top 10 for the first time last year.
Personable and easy-going, Stenson is the highest-ever ranked Swedish golfer and has six European Tour wins to his name.
