Loan man Hayles returns to Foxes

Cheltenham have lost only one league game out of five under Martin Allen

Veteran striker Barry Hayles has left Cheltenham Town and returned to his parent club Leicester City.

Hayles' loan at Whaddon Road expired after he came off the bench to score Saturday's winner against Colchester.

But boss Martin Allen will give trials to two players in a reserve game at Swindon on Tuesday evening.

Another Leicester player, left-side midfielder Jonathan Hayes, will be joined by Leeds United utility player Ian Westlake.

Both have had limited first team opportunities at their current clubs.

Cheltenham still have six players on loan. But, under Football League rules, only five can be named in a squad for any one match.

As for Hayles, manager Martin Allen told BBC Radio Gloucestershire: "I wanted to keep him and Barry wanted to stay but we couldn't do a deal with Leicester.

"We've got budgets to work to and there are other areas of the team I want to try and strengthen."

Hayles had scored three goals in as many games for Cheltenham. But that was his total haul from a two-month, seven-match stint curtailed by three games out following a red card at Millwall in September.
