First-team action attracts Hayles

Interview: Cheltenham striker Barry Hayles

Cheltenham striker Barry Hayles says he has joined the Robins on loan because he wants to play first-team football.

The 36-year-old was not selected by parent-club Leicester for either of their two games so far this season so has moved to Whaddon Road for a month.

Hayles told BBC Points West: "They want me to play and that's what I'm about, I want to play football."

Hayles is set to make his debut for Cheltenham in Saturday's League One derby against Swindon.

Cheltenham lost their opening fixture of the season at Northampton last weekend but Hayles is optimistic that his new side can turn things around.

"It's a local game, massive for us, we've got to get ourselves off the mark.

"The boys are really sharp and focused and there's a lot of ability in the squad."
