Hayles played under Ian Holloway at Plymouth and Leicester
Veteran striker Barry Hayles has joined Cheltenham on an initial one-month loan deal from League One rivals Leicester.
Robins manager Keith Downing told the club website he was delighted to have signed the 36-year-old marksman.
"He will give us strength, know-how and a lot of experience. He is a good character and keen to come here and play some football," said Downing.
"Barry is capable of leading the line well and he will give us another important option up front."
Hayles will not feature in Tuesday's Carling Cup tie at Southend and will not be allowed to play when his parent club visit Whaddon Road at the end of August.
The Jamaican international counts Bristol Rovers and Fulham amongst his former clubs and moved from Plymouth to the Walkers Stadium in December 2007.
Downing said the signing of Hayles does not bring to an end his search for further additions to the Cheltenham squad.
"I'm delighted that Barry is coming to us for a month but we still need to add more and I'll continue to work at that over the next few days," he added.
