Hayles' manager Martin Allen was hopeful the appeal would be successful
Cheltenham Town have lost their appeal against the dismissal of Barry Hayles at Millwall on Saturday.
The striker was sent off for violent conduct after a late challenge on Millwall captain Paul Robinson.
The club launched their appeal on the basis that video evidence did not support the reasons given for the dismissal in the referee's report.
But a Football Association panel ruled the incident constituted serious foul play and upheld the three-game ban.
Hayles, who only has four games remaining before the end of his second month on loan from Leicester City, will now miss the League One matches against Stockport County and Brighton and Cheltenham's Johnstone's Paint Trophy clash with Walsall.
Cheltenham are also facing two months without midfielder David Bird, who has broken a toe.
The 23-year-old broke a toe on his right foot in two places when he was stamped on during the Millwall game.
