Small had three years at Sheffield Wednesday before leaving in 2009
Aldershot Town manager Kevin Dillon has completed the signing of four players on one-year deals.
He has boosted his back four with the captures of former Bristol City centre-back Clayton Fortune, 27, and 20-year-old Aaron Morris from Cardiff.
He has also snapped up wingers Wade Small, 26, and Jermaine McGlashan, 22.
Dillon told BBC Surrey: "It was just a matter of the finances. I've been backed by the board again and by Peter Duffy, which has been great."
Ex-Ashford Town (Middlesex) wide man McGlashan impressed Dillon during a spell on trial at the Rec.
He said: "After 20 minutes on Wednesday [against Reading] I knew I was going to sign him. He's just got something there and I feel we can work with him."
Small joins following his release from League Two rivals Chesterfield.
