Adams has scored 723 Championship runs this season |
A half-century from Jimmy Adams gave Hampshire the advantage over Lancashire on day two at The Rose Bowl. Adams made 72 in a three-hour stay at the crease to help the hosts to 287-6 at the close, a lead of four runs. Sean Ervine (56) and Michael Lumb (48) provided valuable support, while Glen Chapple and Gary Keedy chipped in for Lancashire with two wickets each. Earlier, the visitors added only 21 to their overnight 262-8 to be dismissed for 283, with Dominic Cork taking 4-57. It was Cork who took both Lancashire wickets to fall in the morning session, as he accounted for Simon Kerrigan and Gary Keedy. Hampshire saw Michael Carberry bowled by Chapple off the third ball of their reply before Adams, who was dropped by wicketkeeper Luke Sutton on 18, and Lumb combined for a second-wicket stand of 117. Lumb was first to go, lofting Sajid Mahmood to fine leg, with Adams's vigil ended when he edged Keedy to Sutton. Neil McKenzie and James Vince both failed to capitalise after making good starts, but Ervine smashed his way to a half-century only to fall to Chapple before bad light forced an early close.
