England's women were comfortably beaten as India pulled off a seven-wicket win in Visakhapatnam to lead the five-game one-day international series 2-1. The tourists were bowled out for 130 after being asked to bat first, as Beth Morgan top scored with 24 while seamer Rumeli Dhar took a career-best 4-19. India cruised to victory as openers Poonam Raut (44) and Anjum Chopra (61 not out) shared an opening stand of 97. England grabbed three wickets but India won with nearly 10 overs to spare. Raut, 20, was playing only her second ODI - 116 fewer than fellow left-hander Chopra, 32 - but with a modest required run rate, the pair combined well, scoring 15 fours between them. | 606: DEBATE |
Nottinghamshire seamer Jenny Gunn took 2-19, trapping Raut and Priyanka Roy lbw within three deliveries, while pace bowler Katherine Brunt bowled Anagha Deshpande, but Chopra saw her side home as star batter Mithali Raj was not even required to bat. Earlier, world champions England started badly when Dhar had in-form Ebony Rainford-Brent caught behind for a duck, and had fellow opener Caroline Atkins leg before for 12. Gunn also fell cheaply, while captain Charlotte Edwards was stumped for 22 while trying to lead a recovery. The most productive stand saw Morgan and Laura Marsh (22) add 39 for the sixth wicket, but England - lacking key batters Claire and Sarah Taylor - were unable to post a competitive total. Edwards lamented: ''It was a very different pitch to the one in Bangalore, it had a bit more bounce, a great batting wicket, but we just didn't bad well enough. We'll come back hard on Friday." That fourth one-day match on Friday takes place Visakhapatnam.
