Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq has warned his bowlers changes will be made unless they raise their game in the second Test against India. "Our bowlers didn't do well at all, even though it was a flat track," he said following India's innings victory in Multan.
"It's surprising because we have always played on such pitches in Pakistan and have won matches.
"Our bowlers were just not able to get the ball to reverse swing."
India piled up a total of 675-5 declared after winning the toss and even Shoaib Akhtar, the fastest bowler in the world, was powerless to halt the flow of runs.
He sent down 32 overs without taking a single wicket and Shabbir Ahmed also toiled without reward.
Spin bowler Saqlain Mushtaq's experience won him selection ahead of Danish Kaneria but his 43 overs cost 204 runs.
"Bowling was our strength before the series started, but we didn't bowl to the right line and length.
Inzamam reflects on Pakistan's disappointing performance |
"Our bowlers allowed them to score at a fast pace, which gave the Indian bowlers enough time to take 20 wickets," said Inzamam.
The Pakistan batsmen did not escape criticism with Inzamam, who was run out for nought in the second innings, insisting they should have been capable of saving the match.
"We should have scored 400-500 runs in the second innings on such a flat track," he said.
Pakistan have only four days to regroup for the second Test in Lahore.
"The first Test was very important but we could not perform up to expectations. We will have to work extra hard to come back.
"There are many weaknesses to overcome. We need to field better, bowl better and be responsible while batting," Inzamam added.
