Kumble overtakes Kapil Dev
Anil Kumble appeals for another wicket
Anil Kumble celebrated two milestones as his six second-innings wickets put India on the verge of a first-ever Test victory in Pakistan.

Kumble moved past Kapil Dev with his 24th five-wicket haul - the most by an Indian in Tests.

He also leapfrogged Ian Botham on the all-time list of Test wicket-takers, moving onto 390 by claiming 6-71.

"It's a nice feeling," said Kumble. "But it would have been nicer if we had finished it off today."

India were agonisingly left one wicket short of victory inside four days, despite claiming an extra half-hour's play.

But after finishing off the Pakistan first innings in the morning, they should wrap up their second on the final morning, with Pakistan's last-wicket pair at the crease and still 61 runs adrift.

"Initially both openers were looking to play their shots and it was a flat deck," Kumble said.

"But the most important thing was we had runs on the board. That puts an enormous amount of pressure on the batting side."

So too did paceman Irfan Pathan, who was unlucky to only claim one second innings victim after bagging four in the first, but conceded only 22 runs in 20 overs.

"He has come on really well in his first season," Kumble added. "It is amazing for a 19-year-old to run in so fast and bowl so quick."
